The much-awaited and much-hyped iPhone SE 2020 is a huge letdown for users seeking the Apple experience in a constrained budget environment. Apple does not deliver well when money becomes an impeding factor and iPhone SE 2020 is the evidence of that. The SE 2020 looks like an ancient, outdated device with not so persuasive components.

The SE 2020 has ultra-thick bezels and a beefy chin which makes the already smaller screen appear tiny. The phone is powered by an A13 bionic chip which at least performs well. But the phone tends to heat under duress which is a deterring factor for consumers interested in cheaper apple products.

The phone produces decent photos from its single rear camera which is ludicrous for a phone with above mid-range pricing. The AI mediation produces admissible photos, but the absence of an ultra-wide sensor limits its capturing prowess.

A copious amount of battery is drained out while performing HD video playback and continuous gaming on multiplayer titles. The phone supports fast charging but an obsolete 5W charger takes almost 2 hours to charge the 1827mAh battery. Wireless charging is supported with Qi chargers available separately.

Pros / GOOD

  • Powerful A13 bionic chip
  • HDR support in the camera app
  • Wireless charging support
  • Ample storage space
  • Touch ID fingerprint sensor

Cons / BAD

  • Lack of additional camera sensors
  • Tad overpriced
  • Heats up very easily
  • The inadequate battery capacity of merely 1827mAh
  • Obsolete design
  • Sluggish 5W charger

Conclusion – Should you Buy or Not?

The iPhone SE 2020 could have paved the way for Apple’s entry into the budget segment. But stringent cost-cutting, poor selection of components resulted in a product that is neither cheap nor performance-centric.

The bundled charger is of 5W only and the 18W adapter or higher models that support fast charging are sold separately. This exhibits Apple’s habit of making money off peripherals is not limited to the premium segment only.

Poor design choices, weak battery capacity, and absence of basic camera sensors limit its possibility of being a lasting, widely appreciated budget phone. The iPhone SE 2020 is recommended for consumers who seek Apple brand mobile phones at low prices.
