Honor 30S is the lighter version of the mid-range Honor 30 and has stripped down some of its attributes in order to fit into the pricing. Honor 30S is a mid-range offering from the company with passable features that could find solace in consumers’ hands. The phone incorporates a punch-hole camera on a 6.5 inches frame that is sleek and up-to-date. The phone features an Aluminosilicate glass body constructed around an aluminum frame that feels robust in the hands.

The phone has an IPS LCD display with FHD+ resolution that supports HDR10 and produces good contrast. The screen, however, is an LCD display and does project a little glare in bright outdoor settings. No phone with similar display panel has crafted an in-display fingerprint sensor, with the Honor 30S being no exception to that idea. The phone sports a side-mounted fingerprint sensor that doubles up as a power button for this device.

The phone features a new Kirin 820 5G chipset that supports 5G band and is constructed on 7nm architecture. The performance is not an issue in demanding situations and furnishes better gaming performance than the Kirin 810. The processor is heavily optimized with tonnes of pre-installed pass such as Kirin Gaming+ technologies that provide minimal stutters while playing 3D games.

Pros / GOOD

  • The phone supports 40-watt wired fast charging
  • The phone maintains a slot for memory expansion
  • The headphone jack is still present in the bottom right area
  • The phone’s edges are built out of aluminum that does not scratch easily
  • Improved noise reduction in the camera with more focus on the primary object

Cons / BAD

  • No in-display fingerprint sensor
  • With a brightness of 450 nits the phone poses problems in direct sunlight
  • The phone lacks google play services
  • UFS 2.1 storage for a mid-range phone is a clumsy decision
  • The battery could’ve been somewhat larger considering the elongated phone design
  • The camera module is leaning very close to the corner

Conclusion – Should you Buy or Not?

The phone proposed a software-reliant camera module that is capable of producing well-lit, sharp images with natural colors. The quad-camera module houses a 64-megapixel primary shooter that produces 16 megapixels images by default along with a macro, telephoto, and wide-angle sensor. The phone supports video recording in 4K at 30 fps, 4K HD time-lapse shooting, and supports AIS five-axis image stabilization to reduce noise and pixelations in the videos.

The battery seems a little tiny considering the usability factor but supports fast charging. The 40-watt charger is capable of replenishing 70% of the battery in just 30 minutes. The Kirin processor is coupled with 8gigs of memory that is well-optimized and is readily available for greedy applications. The primary disappointment with this device is the absence of google play services that guarantee timely security updates with verified applications library. That is a deterrent factor considering the essentially of google in an android phone. The phone is a recommended buy for users that have no qualms with the google dispute and just desire a competent device.
